Pelvic Physio Rx is a prescribed program helping women minimize or repair pelvic floor damage.

Pelvic Physio Rx began out of necessity. In Dr. Barrett’s Obstetrics and Gynecology practice he encountered many patients who suffered from pelvic floor prolapse and incontinence as a result of the mechanical forces childbirth and/or the aging process. Key muscles support the pelvic organs including the uterus and the bladder and it is the weakening of these muscles that is responsible for pelvic floor prolapse and urinary stress incontinence.

It became clear to Dr. Barrett that these women had very few options for treatment. This is because Kegel exercises that are recommended during pregnancy may not be as effective post partum due to nerve damage and muscle tearing that is a consequence of vaginal birth. In addition, as many women are still desirous of a further pregnancy, surgery is not yet recommended. Naturally, many women prefer non-surgical methods of treatment.

Dr. Barrett, with his knowledge of maternal physiology together with pelvic floor Physiotherapy experts, developed a medically supervised program of pelvic floor rehabilitation.

The program is based on a detailed and thorough medical assessment of the nature and type of muscle weakness and the latest and most effective techniques of biofeedback physiotherapy to repair the damaged pelvic floor.

How Does it Work?

Your own doctor will be involved in the construct of your program and make a detailed referral to Pelvic Physio Rx. In consultation with your doctor, Dr. Barrett and/or one of our medical staff will meet with you personally if needed, and a comprehensive assessment of your needs can be made. Once this has been completed, prescription rehabilitation is possible. You will then be teamed up with the bio- feedback specialist that best suits your needs.
